The Pluma region of Oaxaca, perched in the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains, is one of Mexico’s most storied coffee-growing areas. These hills have been home to coffee cultivation for over a century, with heirloom Typica varietals thriving among the shaded canopies. Farmers here employ traditional methods passed down through generations, often using small-scale wet mills and sun-drying their parchment beans on rooftops. Pluma coffees have a soft, rounded character that can feel almost nostalgic—comforting in their simplicity, yet elevated by the landscape’s rich biodiversity. Despite facing challenges from migration and climate change, the producers of Oaxaca Pluma remain deeply rooted in both land and legacy.
